The photo she posted of herself competing in a track meet for teenagers became viral in 2007, and she was made a pole vaulter. Instagram and Twitter are among her most liked social media sites. She is a track & field athlete similar to Jessica Ennis Hill. Los Angeles Times reported, in addition it claimed that Stokke did not seek out this the attention. In their book Technology Power and Culture in the Network Society Brett Hutchins and David Rowe linked Stokke's case with that of American soccer players Alex Morgan and Hope Solo female athletes who were treated as fetishized and were seen as having their images being framed in a manner which, according to the authors, diminished their achievements in sports. Regarding Stokke they also pointed out that social media comments generally regarded as offensive in nature and attributed the process of sexualization on the women themselves. Many drew a comparison with Brandi's victory celebration at the FIFA World Cup Final in 1999 wearing a sports t-shirt. Women's sporting events were often overshadowed due to discussions regarding their appearance. A reporter from a Californian website for track and field took pictures of Stokke in New York at the beginning of 2007. The images were posted online. In May the image was republished on With Leather a sports blog with a massive male following noting the attractiveness of seventeen-year-old Stokke with the caption Pole Vaulting is Sexy Barely legal. Matt Ufford was threatened by the photographer with legal action if he did not delete the photo. However, the article was a major media hit and was posted on numerous websites.
